About Water |
|
Our planet holds close to 326 million cubic miles of water. Of this amount, less than 3% is fresh water and the rest is saltwater (Approximate 97%). Of the fresh water (3%) more than 99.3% is frozen (in ice) leaving an estimated 700,000 cubic miles of fresh water, much of which is contaminated, polluted, or almost impossible to
access
by people. While to most people water appears to be plentiful, in fact, fresh,
drinkable water
is actually very scarce and a lot more costly than a gallon of gasoline.
