The types of contaminants that usually pollute the swimming pool are the skin flaks, sweat secretion, mucous, hair, cosmetics and ointments and also urine. Besides, there are the microorganisms that develop in the swimming pool. In order to remove all these contaminants from the water of the swimming pool, different techniques for water treatment for swimming pools are employed by professionals. The basic aspect of water treatment is however the circulation of water through the water treatment plant set up alongside the swimming pool.

Typically, in a water purification plant, the water is first transported to a hair removal filter that effectively removes raw pollutants like plaster, hair and leaves from the water. Following this, a flocculant is added that results in smaller colloids binding together. The colloids are all visible organic matter floating particles, like textile fibers and skin tissues. Other colloidal pollutants include skin fat, saliva, soap and cosmetic products. These particles are thereby removed by a sand filter as a final step of water treatment for swimming pools .
